From Job Seeker to Valued Adviser: Jeremy’s Work Harrow Journey

Before discovering Work Harrow, Jeremy found himself at a crossroads. The prospect of finding stable employment seemed daunting. Despite his unwavering motivation, and varied background, Jeremy recognised that he needed extra support to get him in front of employers.

The turning point came when Jeremy enrolled in the Work Harrow programme. Jeremy worked closely with our Skills and Job Broker Maliha to identify his transferable skills, match him to relevant roles and refresh his employability skills.

“I have received intensive support…” says Jeremy, “Most important of all, was that it gave me access to a range of opportunities in the public sector, one of which - working for the London Borough of Harrow - I eventually secured, and which I am enjoying very much.”

He also gained access to a Digital Skills course via Learn Harrow:

“The course I am on has been absolutely invaluable, and I am much more IT-proficient as a result.”

Each resident works with their adviser to create a tailored action plan combining job search and upskilling.

Jeremy secured a role as a Customer Service Adviser with the London Borough of Harrow, alongside 8 of his Work Harrow peers, as part of a larger recruitment initiative in the spring. At Work Harrow, our advisers are on board for an additional 2-4 weeks to support residents during the transition into work, “in-work support from Work Harrow after securing this position has helped in terms of boosting my confidence and helping me keep focused.”

Very soon after starting, Jeremy received compliments on his customer service from one of the residents he supported,

“I spoke with an advisor named Jeremy Cox who patiently guided me through what to do; [on the website] efficiently and asked me the relevant details and reassured me. He was professional, calm and helpful with a can-do and compassionate manner. I would like to thank him for his assistance... Helpful and empathetic people like Jeremy Cox working at the switchboard would make the entire system much more user friendly and efficient."

As someone who has also received support, Jeremy has gone on to embody our Harrow values of ‘Putting Residents First.’

The recognition did not end there and since then Jeremy has gone from strength to strength as he continues to do well in his role; demonstrated by the constant praise he receives from the residents he helps, his colleagues and management. As Jeremy looks ahead, he does so with a renewed sense of confidence and a desire to keep growing in his career.
